How it Works

Q Cards are organized according to a road-tested framework for having healthy, mature, and productive conversation. We call it the “Martini Method” because the questions start specific, get broader, then end specific again. Like two martini glasses stacked on top of each other!

Purpose

Use Q Cards to prepare for a great coaching conversation!

STARTER QUESTIONS

Use STARTER QUESTIONS to begin the session by discovering expectations for the session.

GOAL, DISCOVER, EVALUATE, DECIDE, & ACTION QUESTIONS

Use these questions to help the coachee work through a challenge or capitalize on an opportunity. Choose whichever questions in the category seem most natural to you (or create your own), but strive to follow the category order of the Martini Method, from Goal to Action.

THOUGHT-SHIFT, CHALLENGE, & PROMPT QUESTIONS:

Use when the coachee gets stuck while responding to a question. These questions exist outside of the Martini Method framework, but help move the coachee through it when they get stuck or need to be challenged.
